Loraine Birmingham Obituary

Asleep in Jesus & awaiting the Resurrection, Loraine Leona Birmingham, age 97, of Glen Carbon, IL, passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at the Lutheran Senior Services Meridian Village in Glen Carbon, IL.

Loraine was born September 18, 1926 in Sorento, IL, the beloved daughter of the late Carl & Leona (Eickmeyer) Mohme.  She was baptized into Christ on October 21, 1926 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Douglas, IL.  She was the beloved wife of Robert Birmingham, to whom she was married for fifty-five years.  they were married on December 12, 1948, also at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Douglas, IL.

Loraine worked in bookkeeping & banking during her professional career.  She & her husband enjoyed traveling, playing cards, & special times in Florida.

She is survived by a sister -  Marie Long;  a sister-in-law -  Donna Lou Mohme;  &  fourteen nieces & nephews also survive.  She was preceded in death by her parents;  her husband Robert;  her brothers Leonard & Harold Mohme;  her sister Darlene Buchmiller;  her brothers-in-law Robert Buchmiller & James Long;  & her sister-in-law Marie Mohme.  Loraine was a loving daughter, wife, sister, sister-in-law, niece, cousin, aunt, & friend.

Loraine was blessed to spend the final eighteen years of her life in the Meridian Village family, where she made many friends, treasured special times, & received excellent accommodations, services, & care.

The family wishes to thank the compassionate staff of Meridian Village for blessing Loraine with a wonderful community in which to live;  Chaplains Randall, Brad, & Gerhard for feeding Loraine with the Word of God;  Elena Durbin for lovingly serving Loraine during the final years of her life;  Right at Home for the services they provided to Loraine;  Vitas & Nurse Jennifer for their kind hospice care;  & Nurse Barb, Nurse Donna, & the CNA's in Maple Lane, the long term care unit of Meridian Village, for being there for Loraine in her final days, even as she drew her final breath.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 10 AM on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at Lesicko Funeral Home in Livingston, IL 62058 (271 N. Second St.), with a funeral service to be held at 10 AM on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at the same location.  Interment will follow at New Douglas City Cemetery on N. Main St. in New Douglas, IL 62074.

Memorials may be made in Loraine's honor to the Meridian Village Benevolent Fund.
